Ali’s 3rd Birthday Party

I’m a little late in getting these up, but it’s that time of year again, the May birthday rush! This year for Ali’s party we had a pixie/enchanted forest themed party, and all the kids that came dressed up as pixies or dragons (just Xavier really ). I think it was probably our most successful birthday bash yet. All the girls looked adorable in their little pixie outfits, and Xavier’s dragon outfit helped keep him from feeling left out.

Of course Megan outdid herself again this year, with what may be her best cake yet. The main part of the cake was a big decaying log, with vines and flowers and all sorts of stuff growing on it to go along with the enchanted forest theme. Then sitting beside the log is the little pixie she made by hand, and it’s all edible!

We decided to get the kids power wheels for their birthdays this year, and so Ali got a pink Barbie Jeep. She’s got quite a ways to go before she really knows what she’s doing, but she loves taking her little Eva doll for rides in it, even if she doesn’t like to use the steering wheel .

Upgrade to Gallery3

In preparation for the new joshandmeg.net 3.0 (it’s nearly finished, I promise!), I upgraded our Gallery installation to the new Gallery 3 Release Candidate. Gallery 3 is a complete rewrite of the application from the ground up, it’s significantly more responsive because of the rewrite, but a lot of the old functionality provided by add-on modules has not been ported over to Gallery 3 yet (so no shopping carts or downloading to a .zip file). I’m hoping the speed improvements will help with the time-out issues that people are sporadically experiencing with the site, so let me know if it helps at all.

All the old pictures and albums have been brought over, and to test out the new install I uploaded a great new album with some pictures from our trip to the zoo this weekend. The kids are getting much more interested in all the animals and they are really getting into things now. The Fort Worth Zoo also finally finished the new Museum of Living Art (MOLA) exhibit, which is this really nice indoor/outdoor mixture of all the snakes, lizards, frogs, alligators, fish, turtles, etc. The kids had a blast going through it, but the day did start out pretty rough. Xavier stood up in the wagon right as I started to pull it and ended up flipping out over the back of it and smashing his head pretty hard on the concrete. He had a huge knot and we were a bit worried he might have had a concussion there for a while, he really did hit it hard. But the knot went down by the end of the day and he finally started acting himself again after about an hour.

Check out the new joshandmeg.net photoblog! I know a lot of you visit the site primarily to check out pictures of our little ones, and unfortunately it generally takes me forever to get all the pictures we take all organized and uploaded to an album. In the meantime, a lot of great pictures that are just snapped randomly throughout the weeks tend to get lost and never uploaded (since they aren’t part of a big event or anything). To try and alleviate this, I thought we’d try out a photoblog with only the best of the best pictures posted as soon as we take them.

I also wanted a nice simple theme, and I’d read about Monotone awhile back, so that’s what we’re using on it right now. What it does is analyze the first picture in a post and style the colors of the blog based on the most prominent color in the photograph. It’s really a pretty neat concept and I think it works really well. Hope you enjoy!

I just put up the frontpage post about Ali’s birthday, with a link to the pictures. Since I was a little behind with photo-uploading, I also did a huge album with a bunch of pictures from April. Some of them are from a couple weekends hanging out with Mark and Stephanie, and the rest are from the few days that my mom and sister came down.

Professional Wedding Pics

Since I’ve been uploading all kinds of photos lately, I decided it was way past time to upload all the professional pictures we had taken at our wedding. We went through the painstakingly long process of scanning all of these in about a year ago, so it’s not like they haven’t been sitting on the computer waiting.

Well, I take that back. We did have quite a scare about two months ago during one of my regular computer wipes (complete re-install of whatever operating system). You see, I believed I had successfully backed everything up, but apparently that was not the case. I ended up losing all of the wedding photos we had scanned in.

Thankfully I had sent them all to my mom, so she was nice enough to send them all back to me. So, a year and a nine months later, the professional wedding pictures are finally up. Check them out here, they are really good.
