Ubuntu 9.04 Desktop Upgrade – Ouch

The nice and pain-free upgrade I experienced with my Ubuntu Server was definitely not repeated when it came to my desktop.  Long story short, NVIDIA drivers for Ubuntu are generally a total pain, and they broke during the upgrade.  Instead of doing what I usually do, which is obsessively spend hours on the forums until I get it working again, I just did a fresh new install.

Once I had a new install of Ubuntu 9.04 working, I was actually pretty happy I had to do it.  One of the things the Ubuntu developers worked on for this release was the boot up time, and it really shows. My fresh install boots in 20 – 25 seconds.  Check out some screen shots of my new desktop below.
